SueEllen Kroll Named Barr Foundation Program Officer for Arts & Creativity

National search concludes with the successful appointment of experienced grantmaker in arts, creativity, and humanities.

The Barr Foundation is pleased to announce the appointment of SueEllen Kroll as its new Arts & Creativity program officer, beginning July 27.

SueEllen joins Barr from the Rhode Island Council for the Humanities (RICH), where she has served in a variety of roles since 2004, most recently as Director of Grants & Strategic Partnerships. At RICH, SueEllen created numerous public humanities initiatives across a variety of platforms and media, including producing radio shows for NPR and a topical discussion series to address critical issues affecting the civic life of Rhode Islanders.

As manager of Rhode Island’s only competitive grants process specifically for the humanities, SueEllen developed the Council’s grantmaking into a robust program that increases capacity and encourages innovation in cultural organizations, and that fosters collaboration with other sectors. Over the past three years, SueEllen spearheaded “Catalyzing Newport,” a multi-year effort to build a collaboration among the City and its cultural institutions to strengthen the community and to spark civic dialogue on pressing issues facing residents. She also serves on the board of the Rhode Island State House Visitor’s Center and Museum and on Trinity Repertory Company’s Next Generation Committee.

We are excited to welcome a program officer with such breadth of knowledge, experience, and appreciation for the power, importance, and potential of arts and creativity.

Last year, Barr introduced new strategies for elevating the arts and enabling creative expression to engage and inspire a dynamic, thriving Massachusetts. We are excited to welcome a program officer with such breadth of knowledge, experience, and appreciation for the power, importance, and potential of arts and creativity.

Please join us in welcoming SueEllen to our team in July.
