The Barr Foundation congratulates its long-time grantee Strategies for Children for receiving the 2014 Excellence in Advocacy Award from the Massachusetts Nonprofit Network (MNN).

Each year, MNN hosts a Nonprofit Awareness Day to recognize the essential role that nonprofits play in strengthening the Commonwealth and to honor the best work being done in the sector. A highlight of the celebration, the Nonprofit Excellence Awards, recognizes nonprofit organizations and employees for excellence in the areas of advocacy, board governance, collaboration, communication, innovation, leadership, small non-profit, and young professionals.

Strategies for Children was one of thirty-two finalists out of more than 200 nominees for the MNN excellence awards. Several other Barr grantees were finalists as well, including Transportation for Massachusetts, The Theater Offensive, and Roca.

Strategies for Children has worked to build a statewide movement for high-quality early education so that children enter school ready to succeed. More recently it has extended its focus to ensure that children in Massachusetts are proficient readers by the end of third grade. On June 7, 2014, Strategies for Children co-sponsored a gubernatorial candidates forum on early childhood and education.

For more information about Nonprofit Awareness Day or the gubernatorial forum please see the resource section below.

Congratulations, again, to Strategies for Children for this well-deserved recognition. We wish you continued success!
