Shanna Cleveland to Join Barr’s Climate Team

Cleveland brings extensive experience as an attorney and climate advocate to Barr’s Clean Energy portfolio.

The Barr Foundation today announced the appointment of Shanna Cleveland as Program Officer, Clean Energy. In this role, Shanna will focus on Clean Energy strategies, with the goal of reducing the energy sector’s emissions by building a path to a clean, efficient, and modern energy system for all. Shanna will begin on February 19.

Shanna is currently Senior Counsel at Free Speech For People, where she crafts legal and legislative strategies to advance campaign finance reform and ensure a democratic process that works for all.

Her significant experience in energy and climate policy and advocacy will be an enormous asset to our efforts to rapidly accelerate clean energy in the region,” said Mariella Puerto, Climate Co-Director. “She has also built an impressive track record engaging, and building partnerships with residents, businesses, and the public sector to achieve better outcomes for our environment and our communities.”

Shanna previously worked as Staff Attorney and Senior Attorney for Conservation Law Foundation’s Clean Energy and Climate program, where she focused on the phase-out of coal-fired power plants, alternatives to new natural gas infrastructure, the implementation of energy efficiency programs, the Global Warming Solutions Act, and utility rate cases. Shanna also served as the Director of Ceres’ Carbon Asset Risk Initiative where she mobilized a global coalition of investors to engage with fossil fuel companies on climate risk.

Shanna earned a bachelor’s degree in English from Harvard University, a J.D. from the University of Virginia, and an LL.M. in Environmental Law from Vermont Law School. She lives in Arlington with her wife and two dogs and loves to travel around New England.
