Silkroad is an arts and learning organization and musical collective that connects dozens of artistic traditions and countries. Founded by cellist Yo-Yo Ma in 1998, Silkroad creates music that engages difference, sparking radical cultural collaboration and passion-driven learning to build a more hopeful world. An ArtsAmplified grant of $1 million will support Silkroad as it transitions to a shared leadership model and a new phase of growth. Silkroad will leverage Barr funds to meaningfully expand its community of artists and teachers, enhance its fundraising capacity, and establish digital platforms and residency programs through which to expand its audiences, share its music, and generate revenue.

“As we move through a significant leadership change and open the doors of Silkroad to bring our global perspective to Boston and Massachusetts, we are focused on understanding the benefits of radical cultural collaboration, and learning how we can teach and enable this mindset.” – Eduardo A. Braniff, Executive Director
