Marvin Martin

Organization: Greater Four Corners Action Coalition
More Information: http://www.gfcac.org/

Marvin Martin Marvin Martin, Executive Director of the Greater Four Corners Action Coalition, is a tireless advocate and has made a visible difference in the Four Corners community. With Marvin's guidance, a network of residents and associations has made the neighborhood safer, more accessible and better housed. He has developed new leadership among community members and formed strong coalitions to fight for equity and quality of life for all residents.

His key accomplishments include the establishment of Boston's Healthy Homes which works to identify asthma triggers and address lead poisoning and indoor air quality among other things. He has also fought tirelessly to improve transportation access in the community which helped to secure a commitment from the state to build at least four new stations along the existing Fairmont Line commuter rail tracks to serve Four Corners and other stops in Mattapan and Dorchester.

Marvin has also focused on bringing in “green developers” and creating “green buildings” in the neighborhood. He has received a couple of awards from the Boston Urban Asthma Coalition for his work in creating healthy housing (e.g., housing with no carpets/hardwood floors, etc.).

In 2007, he was selected for Boston's Neighborhood Fellows, designed by an anonymous donor at The Philanthropic Initiative (TPI), which recognizes individuals of unusual creativity, vision, and initiative who are quietly making the community a better place. Each year, six individuals nominated by "spotters," are chosen to receive $30,000 "no strings attached" awards.
